     Super Senior 8.5 Women's Combo Place Second at Southern Sectionals in Mobile AL

        MOBILE AL (TENNIS E-News) -- The Indigo Run 8.5 Super Senior Women of Hilton Head Island SC ended up a couple games short of winning the championship Sunday at the 2010 Combo Doubles Southern Section Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center. The Islanders, captained by Nanci Staple, won the first two matches in their level round robin, defeating Kentucky and North Carolina, but lost 2-1 in the final match to Alabama.

    Dubbed the world's second largest tennis tournament, the championships crowned 22 team winners from among 185 teams entered in the nine-state competition. The summertime USTA League Sectionals are recognized as the largest. The weekend marked the continuation of 2010 league season that progressed from the state championships held last Fall.

Championships Apr. 2-10

     Former Champions Petrova, Lisicki Join Draw for Family Circle Cup

        CHARLESTON SC – Nadia Petrova and Sabine Lisicki have entered the Family Circle Cup.  Petrova, who received direct entry via her World No. 20 ranking, was a singles champion at the FCC in 2006, as well as doubles champion in 2009 and 2010. Lisicki, who accepted a main draw wild card from the tournament, claimed the singles title in 2009 and returns with a six-match win streak in progress.

  The former champions join World No. 4 and defending champion Samantha Stosur, World No. 6 and 2007 Champion Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova, Shahar Peer, Daniela Hantuchova, and Melanie Oudin in player field headed to Daniel Island.  Marking the tournament’s 39th consecutive year, the Family Circle Cup is scheduled April 2-10 at the Family Circle Tennis Center.

    Throughout her 13-year WTA career, 28-year-old Petrova has nine singles titles and 19 doubles titles and more than $9 million in prize money.  She has finished in the Top 20 for eight consecutive seasons, ranking as high as No. 3 in 2006. Lisicki has accumulated 144 singles victories and nearly $1 million in prize money in her professional career, which began in 2006, and posted a career-high ranking at World No. 22 in August of 2009 on the strength of a quarterfinal run at Wimbledon that year.  She is currently ranked as the World No. 218 player.

Month-Long Event

     Week Two Covers HHI Hard Courts (& Some Clay) With Annual Spring Break College Matches

        HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- The annual influx of college tennis teams is into its first full week, with competitive matches ranging from NCAA Division I through III.. Top colleges on all levels are represented and all matches are open free to spectators. A total of 1,944 individual matches are scheduled from through Sunday.

    This year two separate entities are bringing in more than 200 intercollegiate teams for dual matches and exhibitions. One is Spring Break Tennis, with headquarters at HHI Beach & Tennis Resort. The second is Spring TennisFest, operated by the Professional Tennis Registry out of Van Der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club.

    As usual, the first week had a relatively small number of teams, but not so for Weeks Two and Three.
