     HHI's Wuller Wins Final; Brady, Child, Goodson, Whitlow Advance in PTR International Championships

        HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Hilton Head Island teaching pro Matt Wuller won the Men's 35 singles final today at the 2011 PTR International Championships. Area pros Steve Brady, Pat Child, Eddie Goodson and Keith Whitlow advance to finals in their respective age divisions. Singles and doubles will continue Monday. Admission free to spectators.

    Players from throughout the world are entered in the USTA-sanctioned championships. Matches will continue through the weekend end be wrapped up by midweek. The annual PTR Symposium also is under way with workshops and on-court demonstrations that will run through Thursday. A tennis trade show will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Brady, Child and Whitlow are #1 seeds in the Men's 50s, 55s and 65s, respectively. Also in advanced rounds of doubles are HHI's Scott Clements and Mike Uchno in Men's Open, Whitlow and Islander Hank Iannuzzi in the Men's 65, Brady and Tom Jilly in Men's 45s; Child and Larry Schnall of Kennesaw GA in Men's 55s and Tony Schinto of HHI and Patrick Mashoney of Richmond VA in Men's 70 doubles.

    PTR Founder Dennis Van der Meer, who suffered a severe stroke two weeks ago, continues to remain in the Intensive Care Unit of Memorial Hospital,  Savannah. Although no visitors or flowers are allowed, well-wishers can send cards or messages to Van der Meer Tennis Center, P.O. Box 5902, Hilton Head Island SC 29938.

     HHI's Policare, Boulais, Ono, Kunz in Finals; Erkan in Semis at SMASH Junior Cup in Charleston

            DANIEL ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News via TennisLink) -- Amber Policare, Isabelle Boulais, Yuriko Ono and Nicholas Kunz of Hilton Head Island advanced to the finals today and HHI's Lyla Erkan is in Monday's semifinals in the SMASH Junior Cup, being played at Family Circle Tennis Center.  With 317 of the East Coast's top players in the draws, 25 are from Hilton Head Island, three from Beaufort and two from Bluffton competing through Monday.

     Policare is in the Girls' 14 final Monday. The #5 seed Kunz in Boys' 18s final; #5 seed Boulais in Girls' 12s final; unseeded Ono in Girls' 16s final and #5 seed Erkan is in the Girls' 18s semifinal. All will be played Monday morning. .

It’s time CCTA Super Seniors to sign up for mixed doubles league.

       BEAUFORT SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Super Senior Mixed Doubles League season is open for registration for Coastal Carolina Tennis Association teams. The league will begin play in mid-April and continue through June, said CCTA level coordinator Sally Harvey.

    Teams competed on the 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 levels last year, when three Sun City teams won the championships: Mixed-Up, Love Bugs and Dynamic Duos in the respective levels.

    Team captains or individuals who want to take part in the 2011 season should contact Harvey at sharv@islc.net.

     Back on the Cover of the Rule Book

        HILTON HEAD ISLAND SC (TENNIS E-News) -- Lynn Welch of Hilton Head Island is back on the cover of Friend at Court, the USTA's tennis rules and regulations handbook. She has been a pro tour chair official working all four Grand Slams, several Olympics and many Federation Cup ties, as well as other tournaments like Family Circle Cup on Hilton Head Island and now in Charleston.

    Welch most recently worked internationally televised matches at the Australian Open.

    The 2011 edition of the USTA rules has just been released and includes a front section of changes to the rules that were made for this year.
