CCHH Aces Win Championship

Dirt Ballers, Challengers, Racquettes, PRRC Sr. Moments, MVPs, Port Royal, Sun Strokes Advance to Semis

ISLE OF PALMS SC (TENNIS E-News via TennisLink) -- Hilton Head Island's CCHH Aces lost the Bridge Battle but won the war, capturing the 60 Men's 3.0 championship today at the USTA League South Carolina Super Senior States at Wild Dunes Resort. Seven HHI and CCTA teams advanced to the Sunday morning semifinals in hopes of making it to and through the early afternoon finals.

In the 3.0s, the Sun City Baseliners beat CCHH today but the Aces held high trump card -- a 6-3 court won-lost record over the Baseliners' 5-4. Sun City Captain Frank Frankel was on a winning court and Aces' Captain Ivan Bennett was on a losing court, but all that mattered when the teams ended up with 2-1 records was the tiebreaking extra court win. CTL/Parklane Super Minds also finished 2-1, but the Baseliners held on to runnerup spot by virtue of losing five fewer games -- 82-87.

There will be a couple Us vs. Us semifinal matches in the morning. Two Coastal Carolina teams will face each other in the 60 Men's 3.5 semi: CCTA #1/Sun City Dirtballers  vs. CCTA #2/Sun City Challengers. In the 60 Men's 4.0s, HHI/Port Royal will play CCTA #1/Sun City Sun Strokes. It could have happened in the 60 Women's 4.0s too, when the HHI/PRRC Senior Moments and BIP MVPs of CCTA advanced to the semifinals. They ended up in separate brackets and could face in the final.

The Sun City Racquettes are into the semifinals of the 60 Women's 3.0 and will meet wildcard UPTA/Keowee Key Kwik Steps.

HHI's Indigo Run Flyers are in the catbird seat of the 75 Men's 3.5s that started play today. Holding a 3-0 record and 8-1 in courts won-lost, the Flyers can clinch by winning the fourth round robin match Sunday.

Play is complete In the 70s, with the 4.0 championships going to the PRRC Senior Senoritas and Indigo Run and the Women's 3.0 won by Sea Pines CC. The Men's 3.0 Fiddler's Cove USTA B4s placed second in that division and received a wildcard for Southern Sectionals that will be played Dec. 3-5 on Hilton Head Island. The Women's 3.5 Spring Lake Stingers won in group, but lost in the final 2-1 on a close third-set match tiebreak.

Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms is headquarters site for the championships, but, like all the state playoffs, the number of teams competing will mean play throughout the Mount Pleasant and Charleston area. By TENNIS E-News count, 115 teams are entered in Men's and Women's 3.0 through 4.5 levels in 60s, 70s and 75s. The Men's 75s 3.0 championship already has been played, with the Sun City Spoilers, captained by Dale Trimpe, winning the title.

Here are Friday's and today's results as posted on TennisLink and the semifinal and final schedule for HHI and CCTA teams.
