8-Week Season
HEAR YE ... HEAR YE ... Player Call Out for 2nd Annual Pro Tennis League
"We are still tying up a few loose ends with the venue location for one week and also exact date and time of the Player Draft Party," HHIPTL Board VP Matt Wuller emails. "Also, we are finalizing all the sponsors for the league this season."
The four captains will be drafting players -- men and women -- behind closed doors (Patrick Mason, Brian Kiggans, Lee Holyoak and Matt Wuller). Team personnel will be announced at the Player Draft Party. An eight-week season will consist of six regular season matches, semifinal week and finals match.
The four teams will consist of 10 players each or more if so deemed by the league board members. In addition to the teams captains, the board includes Mike O'Regan as an at-large member. Each match will consist of three doubles courts. To qualify for a team, a player must have a 4.5 or better rating. An application to play is available by emailing mwuller@seapinescountryclub.com.

Presentation at FL Symposium
Bluffton's Di Seggie Named
PTR Humanitarian of the Year
HILTON HEAD
ISLAND SC (via Peggy Edwards, PTR) --
Although her mother competed in The Championships at Wimbledon, Di Seggie, as a young girl, grew up very
poor. Her young life was impacted greatly by the kindness and generosity of
others, and today she is devoted to paying it forward.
In her native Zimbabwe, and later in South Africa, Seggie helped inner city
kids, street children and disadvantaged school children ages 4-19. She wanted to
give these youngsters a chance they would not have had otherwise. Seggie wanted
to keep them off the streets and busy, and show them a different path, one with
hope. Her vehicle: tennis.
When she and her husband, Mike, moved to the USA in 1989, that didn’t sway her
resolve. She saw many underprivileged children here in this land of plenty.
Her concentration is now on those who desperately want to play tennis, but
cannot afford the accoutrements.
Seggie travels from county to county and across state lines to bring free tennis
lessons and clinics to poor kids with potential, and to some without talent.
She collects racquets, tennis shoes and clothing from generous friends.
Children who run to the courts enthusiastically wearing flip flops, leave with
sneakers on their feet. Much to her husband’s chagrin, their garage is packed
floor to ceiling as donations come in as fast as they can be distributed. Mike
calls it "Di’s Thrift Store".
Another passion is to bring tennis to wounded veterans. Having lived through
war and witnessing its ravages, Seggie is trying to make her dream of tennis as
a rehab option a reality. She was among the first to be PTR-certified to teach
wheelchair tennis.
Seggie sits on the board of the Bluffton Benevolent Fund, and started a
scholarship fund in her Sun City community that assists children continue with
their tennis. She also volunteers with the coaches clinic’s PTR’s Special
Olympics Championships.
Never one to draw attention to her endeavors, Seggie works under the radar
helping others, just as she was helped many years ago.
As the recipient of the PTR Humanitarian Award, Seggie will receive a $2,500 check
from PTR Foundation Chairman Scott Tharp to continue her work. The PTR Foundation
is the charitable arm of Professional Tennis Registry, the international tennis
teachers association headquartered on Hilton Head Island.

Thank you so much for filling the banana@hargray.com Inbox with many very nice compliments and comments on the more than 11 years of posting TENNIS E-News by email. Sending of E-News by email has ended. Just so damn much trouble and time. But the news will continue on the website www.tennis-e-news.com.
Throughout these emailing years, "oh, you're the E-News guy" has been a nice intro -- most often at handshake time at the start of a team match. Never seemed to win any points during the match, but the apre expressions are always appreciated.
SPRING is in the air: Only 14 days to Daylight Saving Time (March 11)
